Install

Tampal is a patch, not a firmware. You make the image on this page from your own copy of Roland's firmware file; this site never has Roland's file. Everything happens in your browser: the file you choose is read here, hashed here and patched here, and it is never uploaded.

Steps

  1. Download the 5.52 system update from Roland's support page and unzip it. You need SP404MKII_APP1.bin.
  2. Choose that file below (or the DOOM OS 0.6 image, see the next section). The page checks which file it is and refuses any other.
  3. Tick the box, then download the new SP404MKII_APP1.bin.
  4. Copy it to the root of your SD card.
  5. Put the card in the unit, hold SHIFT while you turn it on, and press the VALUE knob when the update menu appears.
  6. When the update is done, turn the unit off and on again.

If you use DOOM OS

Tampal can be built on top of DOOM OS 0.6, so you can have both in one image. Make the DOOM OS image first with DOOM OS's own patcher (it takes the stock 5.52 file and gives a DOOM OS 0.6 SP404MKII_APP1.bin), then choose that image below. Other DOOM OS versions are refused.

Run Roland's updater again with Roland's own SP404MKII_APP1.bin (the same steps as above, with Roland's file on the card). That puts back the original firmware.

Saving this page

Save this page together with its js folder (in a browser: "Save page as", complete page) and open it from your disk. The patcher then works without this site: load your firmware file and a mod.patch file and it does the same work. A page opened from disk cannot fetch the catalogue, so it says "no release yet" if you choose only a firmware file.
